Privacy Policy
This policy explains what data Prayer Times collects, why, and how it is handled across the marketing website, the web app, and the iOS/Android apps.
Who we are
Prayer Times is operated by Element Software Ltd. If you have questions about this policy, contact us at contact@element-software.co.uk.
Data we collect and why
Location (web)
The web app may request your browser’s location to calculate accurate prayer times for your area and to sort nearby masjids. This data is processed locally in your browser and is not transmitted to or stored on our servers for prayer-time calculation alone. You can decline location access at any time via your browser settings.
Location (mobile)
The iOS and Android apps may request precise location (when you opt in) to calculate prayer times for your exact position and to sort nearby masjids. Coordinates used only for on-device calculation stay on your device. If you also enable prayer-time notifications while using “My Location,” your latitude and longitude are stored with your notification subscription so we can schedule alerts for the correct place. You can revoke location access in system settings and turn off notifications in the app at any time.
Push notification subscriptions
If you opt in to prayer time notifications, we store a push token and your notification preferences in our database (hosted on Supabase). On the web this is a browser Web Push subscription (endpoint URL and encryption keys) plus the city you choose. On mobile this is a Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) device token, an optional device label, and either a city or coordinates when using My Location. No account is required. You can revoke notifications at any time in the app or through your device / browser notification settings.
Analytics (with consent)
With your consent, we use PostHog (EU data residency) and, on mobile, Firebase Analytics to collect anonymised usage data — such as screens visited and features used — to help us understand how Prayer Times is used and how to improve it. No data is sold or used for advertising purposes. We do not collect the Android Advertising ID. Analytics are only active after you accept: on the web, via the cookie consent banner; on mobile, via the in-app analytics prompt (and you can change this later in Settings). See our Cookie Policy for details on web cookies and similar storage.
Voluntary submissions
If you submit a city, masjid directory entry, or timetable (for example a PDF), we store the details you provide — typically a name and email address, and any other fields you fill in — so we can review the request and contact you if needed. Masjid directory submissions may be enriched with publicly available place details from Google Places. Timetable PDFs may be processed with automated parsing (including third-party AI) to extract prayer times for review. These processors are used only to operate and improve the service; we do not sell this data or use it for advertising.
AI-assisted features
Some server-side features may use third-party AI (for example OpenAI) in a limited way: optional prayer-notification message wording, and assistance parsing uploaded timetable PDFs. Prompts are scoped to the task and are not used to build advertising profiles. We remain responsible for how these processors handle data under this policy.
UI preferences
Theme, city, calculation options, and other display preferences are saved locally (browser storage on the web; on-device storage on mobile). Preference data used only for display does not leave your device except where described above (for example notification preferences synced to our servers when you opt in to alerts).
Data sharing
We do not sell or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes. Sub-processors involved in running the service are:
- Supabasepush notification subscription and submission storage (EU region)
- PostHoganonymised analytics (EU region, consent-gated)
- Firebasemobile push (FCM) and consent-gated Analytics; Advertising ID not collected
- Vercelhosting and edge network (standard server access logs, retained briefly)
- OpenAIlimited server-side AI for notification copy and timetable parsing
- Google Placesoptional enrichment of voluntary masjid directory submissions
Your rights
If you are in the UK or EEA you have the right to access, correct, or request deletion of any personal data we hold about you. We do not require accounts. Personal data we may hold includes push notification subscription tokens (and related preferences or coordinates when you use My Location with notifications), and any name, email, or other details you voluntarily submit. To have data removed, contact us at contact@element-software.co.uk, revoke notifications in the app or system settings, or withdraw analytics consent (web cookie banner / mobile Settings).
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected here with an updated date. Continued use of Prayer Times after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
