Terms of Service
These terms apply when you use Prayer Times: the website, the web app, and the iOS and Android apps. They're written in plain English and sit alongside your statutory rights, not in place of them.
Who we are
Prayer Times is made up of the website at prayertimes.dev, the web app at app.prayertimes.dev, and the Prayer Times apps for iOS and Android (together, “Prayer Times” or “the service”). It is run by Element Software Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales with company number 12122088 (“we”, “us”, “our”).
By downloading or using Prayer Times you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the service. You can reach us at support@prayertimes.dev.
What Prayer Times does
Prayer Times shows daily prayer times, masjid jamaat times, monthly timetables, a Qibla direction and optional prayer reminders. The apps are free to use and you don’t need an account.
Prayer start times are calculated on your device from your chosen city or location using recognised astronomical methods. Masjid jamaat times come from the masjids themselves, from timetables they publish, and from submissions by the community.
Accuracy and religious guidance
We work hard to keep times accurate, but we can’t guarantee that every time shown is correct. Calculation methods and juristic opinions differ, your device’s clock, time zone or location may be wrong, and masjids can change their jamaat times at short notice or after we last updated them.
Prayer Times is a helpful guide, not a religious authority. If in doubt, check with your local masjid or a scholar you trust. We are not responsible for a prayer, fast or other act of worship being missed or performed at the wrong time because of information shown in the service.
Notifications and widgets
Prayer reminders, widgets and similar features are optional and you can turn them off at any time. They depend on your device, its operating system, battery and power-saving settings and your network connection, so we can’t guarantee every reminder will arrive or arrive on time.
Things you send us
You can suggest cities, add masjids to the directory and upload masjid timetables. When you do, you confirm that the information is accurate to the best of your knowledge and that you are allowed to share it.
You keep any rights you have in what you send. You give us a free, worldwide, non-exclusive licence to store, process (including automated and AI-assisted reading of timetables), review, edit and publish it as part of the service. We may correct, decline or remove any submission. How we handle the personal details you include is covered by our Privacy Policy.
Acceptable use
When using Prayer Times you must not:
- submit false, misleading, offensive or unlawful content, or impersonate a masjid or person;
- scrape, copy or bulk-download data from the service, or access it by automated means other than our published developer API;
- try to gain unauthorised access to the service or its systems, or disrupt, overload or interfere with it;
- copy, modify or reverse engineer the apps, except where the law allows you to;
- use the service in breach of any law.
We may limit or block access for anyone who breaks these rules.
Intellectual property
The apps, website, design, text and graphics are owned by us or our licensors. You may use Prayer Times for your own personal, non-commercial use. Masjid names, logos and timetables belong to the masjids they describe. If you want to use Prayer Times data or displays commercially, see commercial licensing.
Purchases and other products
The Prayer Times apps don’t contain in-app purchases or adverts. Some related products are sold separately and have their own terms:
- physical products bought from this website, such as the Prayer Clock and the Dhikr Ring, are covered by our Returns, Refunds & Warranty policy;
- masjid subscriptions are covered by the Masjid Portal terms;
- the developer API is covered by the terms you accept when you sign up for it.
Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
App stores and third-party services
If you download the app from the Apple App Store or Google Play, their terms also apply to your download and use of the app. Apple and Google are not responsible for the app or for supporting it; we are. The service may link to other websites and apps, such as masjid websites and map apps. We don’t control them and aren’t responsible for their content.
Availability and changes to the service
We aim to keep Prayer Times available and working well, but we don’t promise it will always be available, uninterrupted or free of errors. We may change, suspend or stop any part of the service at any time, for example to fix problems, improve features or meet legal requirements.
Our liability to you
The service is provided free of charge and “as is”. As far as the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss, or for any loss of data, income or opportunity, arising from your use of Prayer Times or from relying on information shown in it.
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot be limited or excluded under the law of England and Wales, and nothing affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains what data Prayer Times collects and how it is used, and our Cookie Policy covers cookies and similar storage on the web.
Changes, governing law and contact
We may update these terms from time to time, for example when we add features or the law changes. The latest version will always be on this page with the date it was last updated. If you keep using Prayer Times after a change, the updated terms apply.
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland you can also bring proceedings in your local courts.
